Ulysses is a modern novel by Irish author James Joyce. It was published from March 1918 to December 1920 by the American magazine The Little Review. It was first published in Paris by Sylvia Beach on February 2, 1922, on the 40th anniversary of Joyce. The story ends a few hours later, when Stephen politely refuses to stay in the house of two other main characters – Leopold and Molly Bloom when he realizes that he can not stay with Mulligan and Haynes. Throughout the sixteen-hour narrative, the characters spend their days in Dublin, interacting with a variety of people, most of whom are fictional but some represent real people.
