This is a short work in the history of sociology and the founder of African-American literature. This book contains many articles about race, some of which were previously published in the Atlantic Monthly. The Souls of Black Folk is a short work in African American literature and classic American work. In this work, Du Bois suggests that “the problem of the twentieth century is the problem of colored lines.” Imagining his life behind the scenes and the result of “dual consciousness, this feeling of always seeing oneself through the eyes of others” has become the center of thinking about race in America. In addition to these enduring notions, ghosts reflect the progress of the race, the obstacles to its progress, and the progress of the race as the nation enters the twentieth century. The Souls of Black Folk Review:
Du Bois examines the years immediately following the Civil War, and in particular, the role of the Freedmen’s Bureau’s in the reconstruction. The failure of the office was not only due to the opposition of the South and “national negligence”, but also to the mismanagement and misrepresentation of the courts in favor of the “blacks”. The office also had success, and the most important contribution to its development was the establishment of African American schools. Since the reconstruction was completed in 1876, de Bois claimed that the most important event in African-American history was the appearance of Booker teacher T. Washington, who was the race spokesman. De Bose argues that Washington’s approach to racial relations is the opposite of the long-term development of competition. His acceptance of separation and his emphasis on material progress reflect the old attitude of “reform and surrender.”
