American cartoonist Art Spiegelman has written Maus a very popular graphical novel. The novel depicts Spiegelman interviewing his father about his experiences as a Holocaust survivor and his life as a Polish Jew. Maus uses postmodernist techniques and presents Jews as mice, Poles as pigs and Germans in the form of cats. The story of the novel is narrated by the first person which started in New York City in the year 1978, Spiegelman had a conversation with his father Vladek discussing his Holocaust experiences, collecting various things for his Maus project he is preparing. In his past Spiegelman faced these experiences, to the years which lead to World War II to his parents escape from Nazi concentration camps. Most of the story of the novel revolves around Spiegelman’s troubled relationship with his father and living without his mother, who at the age of 20 committed suicide.
