One’s Own Room is a long essay by Virginia Woolf. The article was first published on October 24, 1929, and is based on his October 1915 lectures at Cambridge University’s two women’s colleges, Ninth College and Gertin College. A week ago, the narrator crossed the lawn of the legendary Oxbridge University, tried to enter the library, and went through the chapel. He intervened at each station, noting that women were not allowed to do such things with men. He goes to lunch where the best food and relaxing surroundings make for a good conversation. Back at Farnham, Women’s College, where she stays as a guest, she has dinner.
